At Page Resourcing we are committed to promoting equal opportunities and inclusion in the workplace – as an employer, a provider of services and through our suppliers. For this reason, it is highly important to us to give visibility to the LGBTQ+ community during Pride month and beyond. To do this, we interviewed leaders around the world.

Interview with Kaiene Gomes, Analyst of Diversity and Inclusion & Partner, Neon

What makes you passionate about educating others on LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity?

I love everything about diversity, inclusion and equity. I believe in a world where all people are free, have equal rights and equal opportunities. A lot of people don’t know anything about the LGBTQ+ community, and I believe in order to be a good ally, you need to understand the basics to fight against discrimination.

Have you witnessed an incident against the LGBTQ+ community at work? If so, how did you react?

I’ve never personally witnessed an incident. However, I believe when something like this happens, the right thing to do is report the situation to your human resources or compliance area. Neon has an ethical process to investigate these situations and a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination.

What does an inclusive work environment look like to you?

An inclusive workplace is one where everyone can be themselves — where there’s respect, equal rights and opportunities for everyone. It’s also a safe space that promotes mental health and wellbeing.

How can an employer make their workplace more inclusive towards the LGBTQ+ community?

Companies should focus more on creating affirmative jobs and attracting employees from the LGBTQ+ community. They should train employees about diversity and inclusion to create a safe space for their LGBTQ+ team members, and they can create affinity groups or host events to help raise awareness.
